Elder Joseph W. Schindler -- The Czech Republic

I have created a blog to make it easier to share information about Joseph and his mission to the Czech Republic. I hope you enjoy Joseph's experiences and reflections as much as we do!

Letter dated May 31, 2010

[Dear family and friends, here is the latest letter that we received from Joseph. I will try to send some of the pictures later. I hope all is well with you! Thank you for your love and support of our Joseph. Happy Memorial Day!! Joseph's editor - BWS]

Hello everybody,

This past week was a good week. We had Zone conference last Wednesday [a meeting with all of the missionaries in Joseph's zone - about 16 missionaries], which was particularly powerful because this is the last Zone Conference that the Slaváčeks [Joseph's mission president and his wife] will do before going home. They challenged us to use this next week to the best of our abilities and do give everything we can. We have also been challenged to give the things up that may be holding us back. We are all very excited to meet this new challenge, and though we are sad to see President and Sister Slováček go home, we are looking forward to the Irwins [the new mission president and his wife] coming next month.

Also, we have a good looking week ahead of us. We already have several lessons planned for this week, and several of those are lessons with members. Teaching with members here in the Prague Branch is very helpful because it helps our investigators find a friend who can help them in their spiritual journey. We are always very happy to have these members teach with us.

I have some questions and requests from home. I still would like to receive those pictures of the garden, yard, home, brothers, missionary board, etc... if possible. Also, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could send me, everything we know about Joseph Schindler (not me, but the one who buried in SLC) [This is Joseph's great great grandfather who was born in Prague!]. In addition, (this one is for you Dad) who said that they liked the "sweet smell of cigarette smoke" [This is in reference to a talk where a Senior missionary couple stated that they loved to go to church and smell the "sweet smell" of cigarettes because it let the missionary know that someone was attending church who was trying to better his/her life] at church and did Grandma give a talk about having "no empty chairs" at my baptism [She did - 11 years ago! This was in reference to her desire that when we get to heaven, she wants there to be no empty chairs at our family table.]?

In other news, I met another person who knows my family. Sister Miller, a senior missionary over in Brno was at our Church meeting today with her son who was visiting from America. He is a talented member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and gave a nice, musical fireside yesterday. Anyway, Grandpa Wilson was her doctor and she also sang in the Tabernacle Choir for many years.

I hope that you enjoy the pictures and I will talk to you again next week. [I will forward some of these pictures under a separate note!]

Love,
Starší Joseph Schindler
