Elder Joseph W. Schindler -- The Czech Republic

I have created a blog to make it easier to share information about Joseph and his mission to the Czech Republic. I hope you enjoy Joseph's experiences and reflections as much as we do!

Good Afternoon Everybody,

This last week went well. The weather is warming up and today has been a beautiful day so far (it is about four o'clock in the afternoon). We had some really amazing success contacting people this week and taught many different people. We do a lot of contacting in parks and on Naměstí (town squares) and found six new people to meet with this week. We taught a few more, but for whatever reason, they did not want to meet with us again. That is alright though, everyone has their agency, but just so y'all know, six new investigators is awesome and is a huge blessing to us, as well as to these six new people we are teaching.

I will briefly tell you about a couple of them. Earlier in the week we met a young man named Matě. He liked many of the things we said and was interested in meeting again, so we set up for a return appointment the next day in the park. We arrived about five minutes late and since we could not see him, we feared lest he had already departed from the place where we had previously designed to meet. However, we waited a few minutes just in case he would come back. It actually turned into more than a few minutes (about 25), but we started to work on my Czech while we waited, so I became quite distracted. Anyway, he did show up, AND he brought two friends who we also taught and are currently teaching. All three were interested in what we had do say and it was amazing to teach and talk with them.

Today for Preperation day, our Zone (all the missionaries in Prague and Plzen') went to the city of Karlštejn. There is a beautiful castle there, which we could not go into because it was closed. But that is not why we went so it was okay. It was in Karlštejn that the Czech Republic was first dedicated for Missionary Work. [Editor's note: A dedication is a special prayer that is offered to prepare a specific land for missionary work.] There is a small monument made by the church that commemorates this event that that is what we went to see. It is hard to find though, and since none of us had been there before, we wandered in the forest for about two hours, not sure exactly where we were supposed to be going. After a while, we sort of gave up, but on the way back, we decided to try one last path, which led straight to the monument. We took some pictures (which I will send sometime in the future, they do not want to load today) and it was a wonderful experience to see the place where this country was first dedicated for the work that we are doing as missionaries. I was so thankful for the opportunity to see it and it really served as a great "pick-me-up." I love this work and I am looking forward to the great few months ahead of me as a missionary in the Czech Republic.

Love,
Starší Joseph Schindler
